Worker Bee Keeping the World Moving

This creation was done when we were about a month into the first lockdown. The lockdown that the UK public optimistically thought would only last three weeks lasted for three months.

This piece was done to mark that although the human world had come to a standstill and had been stopped in its tracks due to the coronavirus pandemic – the natural world continued to go about its ways.

The worker bee, keeping the world moving

Climate change and biodiversity loss have been a hot talking point over the past decade. Climate change has led the conversation but with more research and demand for development, biodiversity loss is something that more people are now beginning to talk about.

Bees are great for providing ecosystem services including pollination of flowers as well as edible agriculture like berry bushes. The importance of the bee is often overlooked with some estimating that if all the bees, globally, were to be wiped out overnight, the human race would only survive for a further 6 years.

Hence, this creation was something that was simple to undertake and yet highlighted something that was in hot conversation despite the world dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.
